Broadcom has recently taken first place in Trendforce's global top ten IC design companies. The fabless chip vendor had the most sales in 2018 and outranked previous leader Qualcomm, which held the spot for the previous 10 years. The top ten manufacturers are ranked by revenue.

Broadcom has developed a product portfolio that covers seven target markets: data center, networking, software, broadband, wireless, storage and industrial. The Singapore based company's diverse product line includes semiconductors for set-top/CMTS, cable modems, and PON/DSL, Ethernet NICs, filters and amplifiers, ASIC, wireless connectivity solutions, embedded processors, HDD/SSD controllers, enterprise SAS/SATA/Fibre Channel connectivity, data center switches and routers, optical isolation/motion encoders/LEDs, and fiber optic solutions

In 2018 Broadcom became the sole provider of chips designed to enable WIFI, Bluetooth, GPS and wireless charging in new iPhones. According to analyst Harlan Sur, the partnership between Broadcom and Apple should contribute to top line growth. The latest iPhone costs $1000 or more which has increased the demand for older models. Broadcom components used in these models are being sought out by refurbishers.

Broadcom dominates the market in GPS, WIFI/Bluetooth wireless connectivity. Their close relationship with Apple as a supplier for mixed-signal analog and wireless power will continue into 2019. Future models will most likely use Broadcom's next generation of Bluetooth and WIFI combo chips.
